Exploration
when overdue
for so, so long
you graced the scene
of my existence’s
worn marine,
for some time now
‘ve been tracking you
nurturing hope
you’ll keep the course,
you won’t change mind
and that the wind
may not push back.
I had a thought,
to show you that –
for quite some time! –
how wonderful,
and now so fine
is there with us
and far too long
I’ve yearned for you.
Everything ready,
neatly fashioned,
presented as
I had imagined.
The ideal spot
arranged with thought
of course, why not!
and no excess.
I wanted to
impress you,
to make you see
how vast the sea
you mean to me.
and I had asked
to follow me
and much surprised
was I when you
agreed.
‘been tracking you
for some time now
on the horizon’s
bending bow.
yet didn’t share
that I have changed
abandoned on
the shores of strange.
I wished for you
to know the least.
I often come
around out here
I made it clear,
and that I wander,
and I explore,
and that I’m doing well,
and live my life
as I adore.
but you, in turn,
paused at a sight,
and disappointed
deeply sighed.
without a word
you disappeared.
and here I stand
just as I am
and I have stood
beneath the realm:
long left before
a sinking ship
on a forgotten shore.
